MANITOBA, CANADA

When Derek and Brent Law decide to do something, they don’t pull any punches, and building motorcycles is definitely not the exception to this rule. From their Brandon, Manitoba shop; Cycle Boyz Customs Inc., has taken the custom bike building world by storm and demanded to be noticed.

With just a mere four and a half years in business, Cycle Boyz has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments, not the least of which is back-to-back first place wins in 2005 and 2006 at the Canadian Championship of Bike Building. Add to that, wins at the Red Deer Motorcycle Show in 2005, 2006, and 2007, third place in the 2004 Las Vegas Bike Week, and just to round things off, a seventeenth place finish (out of a 120 entries) at the 2007 AMD World Championship of Bike Building in Sturgis, South Dakota. Cycle Boyz two-wheeled creations have been featured in over a dozen international motorcycle magazines including MCM (Sweden), Kopetari (Finland), Street Chopper, Barnetts, Chopper Build, The Horse Backstreet Choppers, Northern Rider, and of course, Motorcycle Mojo Magazine (see January/February 2007 issue).

From their well-equipped 6,000 square foot shop, Cycle Boyz offer everything from full ground-up custom bike builds to service and repairs and customizing existing bikes. “Our service shop can handle any job,” Brent said, “whether it’s a tire install and balancing or a complete motor build including Twin Cam case boring.”

If it’s the fabrication of a custom part you need, Cycle Boyz has the skills and equipment to handle any type of custom fabrication, from welding and machine work to custom sheet metal. They are also equipped to offer specialty TIG welding, lathe and millwork, and in-house polishing and powder coating.

The Cycle Boyz showroom always has complete custom bikes for sale, all of them ready to roll. Parts guy Randy White keeps a well-stocked parts department with everything to keep your ride on the road, including their own line of custom parts. One piece flat bottom fuel tank tunnels, flush fuel tank mount kits, weld-on fender bungs and custom brackets are just a few of the products available on the ever growing list. “We are continuing to develop and produce a parts line that is distributed through suppliers such as Custom Chrome.” Brent continued, “We are also developing a builder’s line of parts to accommodate both the home builder as well as custom bike shops.”

Whether it’s a full restoration of a vintage 45 or Panhead, a full custom bobber, a drop seat single-sided radical Twin Cam or a big inch power plant, Brent, Derek and mechanic Tim Wytinck will keep you in the wind. “It’s our diversity and attention to detail,” Brent says, “That’s what sets us apart from all other shops.”

The guys are especially proud of one of their newest builds. The mandate from owner Dave Nicholson was to keep it minimal. Minimal it is. A couple solid wheels sandwich a Maximum Metal-works frame stuffed with a 124 cu in TP engine and enough room on top for the rider to straddle, and hold on. Brent said, “Once the parts arrived it only took 2 months to complete”. Finished in basic black and satin silver, this bike is sure to turn heads no matter where it goes.
