FXR Racing, after careful consideration and research, has launched a new line of riding jackets offering three different styles for men and four styles for women.

The Ignitor men’s jacket looks and fits great. The outer nylon shell is made from a tough breathable and water-resistant Cordura and the inner full-sleeve length zip-in liner is made from 3-oz moisture wicking polyester material. As an added bonus, FXR coats come with FXR waterproofing spray for added protection and piece of mind. The pre-curved sleeve design of the outer shell offers embroidered flame and logo pattern and features CE approved elbow and shoulder protection. A pocket is also built in for an optional back protector. All armour is removable and adjustable to fit different arm lengths ensuring the elbow pads fit comfortably. The outer shell also offers 3M reflective piping.

I wore the Ignitor coat on a two week trip to the far north through northern BC, Yukon and Alaska and while it did an adequate job of keeping me warm and dry for the most part, I felt the coat was a little light for those temperatures and would be better suited to warmer climates. Some of the temperatures we encountered were just above the freezing mark. The drop tail back did an excellent job of keeping the draft off of my back and kidney area. In fact I felt no drafts at all in the coat except for the elasticized side sections that offer a Velcro strap waist adjustment. The draft in this area was only noticeable while riding in very cold conditions.

In normal precipitation the coat did an excellent job of keeping rain out and lived up to it claim of being waterproof, however at one point, after riding for about three hours in steady to heavy rain, my shirtsleeves did get wet. In hindsight, I realized my hands were lower than my elbows and know a lot of water was running down the outer sleeve of my jacket into my gloves. Since I was only wet from my elbows down, it makes sense to me that my shirt sleeves wicked the water up. The outer shell and the inner liner dried quite quickly when we finally stopped riding in the rain.

During the warmer temperatures, the large side vents offered plenty of airflow inside the coat. While the side vents do a good job of keeping air flowing inside the jacket, you must remember to do them up in the rain. Don’t ask me how I know this.

The bottom line is, apart from the slight draft at the elasticized waist adjustment area, the Ignitor is a winner on all accounts.

The FXR Ignitor jacket retails for $249 and is available at Royal Distributing or anywhere else FXR outerwear or clothing is available. Go to www.fxrracing.com for more information or to find a dealer near you.

FXR Racing will be introducing leather jackets, gloves and Kevlar reinforced jeans in the near future. MMM
