Although we’re not sure if his Holiness can actually ride a motorcycle, we do know that his security forces were presented with two Ducati Multistradas during a ceremony held at the Pontiff’s summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, Rome, on September 15th.

The keys to the multitasking bikes were personally handed over to Pope Bendictus XVI by top Ducati executives who were thrilled by the close encounter. “We are very honoured for the unique opportunity of delivering our two special Ducati Multistradas to His Holiness today,” stated Gabriele Del Torchio, President at Ducati Motor Holding. “For us, and for everyone who works at Ducati, this event represents something to be very proud of. It is a symbolic gift with which we would like to express our sincerest appreciation and respect for the Pope and embrace his message of hope and trust in the future.”

Finished in the yellow and white livery of the Pontifical State and modified for the Gendarmerie Corp with a telescopic flashing light, siren and radio equipment, the bikes will be used as part of the Pope’s official security motorcade. The occasion marked the first time that the Vatican Gendarmerie Corp has used motorcycles for their security tasks.

It seems that Ducati has been very blessed this year. They recently presented the key for another motorcycle to Italy’s other Holiness, Valentino Rossi. However, it won’t be until next year before we’ll see that particular Ducati used as part of a much faster motorcade.
