We love freebies. And this one ranks up there with the best of them. Pirelli Tires has just released the Diablo Super Biker iPhone App, a smartphone application that Pirelli says can analyze your motorcycle’s performance.

As the official tire supplier for the Canadian Superbike Championship and Superbike World Championship series, Pirelli is using the free app to promote the performance capabilities of their popular Diablo range of tires.

It’s claimed that the Diablo Super Biker app can track a motorcycle’s speed and lean angle, and therefore it has the ability to measure and record road or track performance. It works by combining the GPS tracking technology already built into an iPhone with the apps software to provide immediate feedback based on a motorcycle’s performance. Pirelli says that it’s like having a traditional track-side transponder device in your pocket, without the hassles of hard mounting and wiring expensive equipment to your motorcycle.

Able to perform some of the functions offered by professional equipment, the app allows you to choose between road or track modes, enter your motorcycle’s model and type of Pirelli tires you’re using, record lap times (on a track) and display a recorded session superimposed over a Google map. Topping off the impressive list of features, you can also share any of your collected data on Pirelli’s social media page (www.GetPirelli.com).

Specs for the Diablo Super Biker app state that it’s only compatible with the iPhone 4 and that it requires iOS 4.2 or later. We’ve successfully loaded the app on an iPhone 3GS, and will be testing its functionality and accuracy compared to the data logger we use for track testing. To get your free app, access the App Store from your iPhone and search for Pirelli. The Diablo Super Biker is available in five languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
