Never a company to shy from controversial designs, ICON has always been a company that has flipped staid riding gear the bird. At the recent 2012 Dealer Expo, the brash company unveiled their latest collection, which as expected, continues their tradition of presenting the untraditional.
Simply called “1000”, the edgy new collection features riding gear that ICON claim is suitable for the upcoming apocalypse in 2012.
At the top of the 1000 Collection is the Variant Battlescar helmet. A crossover lid that blends sport and adventure-touring features such as a full face shield with a prominent visor, the helmet stands out from everything else on the shelf because of its raw composite shell that has been tinted in varying shades of green. The interior of the helmet uses HydraDry moisture wicking material and the distortion-free shield has been treated with FogFree. If green isn’t your thing, the brown Dark Earth version and the opaque shelled Construct are also available.
Manufactured using an exclusive selection of Brazilian cowhide, the Chapter jacket is available in three models, Pursuit Black (pictured), Cutter Brown, and Interceptor Grey. The black and grey jackets feature drum-dyed antique leather with a refined matte finish, while the brown jacket has an aniline-dyed natural grain that has been treated with a hand-applied wax finish. Inside each Chapter jacket is a full range of D3O impact protectors for the shoulders, elbows, and back. The oversized YKK zippers are finished in a black oxide and the removable vest liner provides warmth without bulk.
The five-strap Elsinore boots use alloy buckles, stamped metal heel plates, and internal steel shanks as an homage to the rough and tumble moto-x boots of yesteryear. The boots feature a traditional Goodyear welt construction and a medial entry zipper styled from paratrooper jump boots. ICON describes the Elsinore boot as “a modern relic from an era when men were iron and tanks were steel.”
