The 84 hairpin turns of Italy’s infamous Stelvio Pass has lent its name to the newest Moto Guzzi adventure-tourer to be imported into Canada. Piaggio Group, Moto Guzzi’s parent company, has just announced that the 2012 Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX is now available at its Canadian dealerships.

Moto Guzzi says that the new Stelvio effectively combines traditional “Guzzi character with state-of-the-art performance and design.” The all-terrain motorcycle has been given many technical and functional upgrades such as a voluminous 32 liter fuel tank, selectable traction control, and an integrated ignition and fueling ECU that improves throttle control and low to mid-range power. Powering the Stelvio is an eight valve, 1,200 cc, 90 degree V-twin that is claimed to produce a maximum of 78 kW (104 hp) at 7,250 rpm and 113 Nm (83 lb/ft) of torque at 5,800 rpm.

Only available in Lava Black, standard features for the $16,190 model include 30 liter aluminum panniers, ABS brakes, aluminum crash bars, hand guards, and a large windshield.

More information concerning the 2012 Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX can be found at Moto Guzzi’s Canadian website. The Italian manufacturer has also created a micro-website at motoguzzioriginals.com, which details Moto Guzzi history from the perspective of its designers and owners.
