Yamaha introduces a new, back-to-basics cruiser called the Bolt.

Introduced in conjunction with Daytona Bike Week, Yamaha calls the the 2014 Bolt a “crossover,” blending a cruiser chassis with a more upright, standard bike riding position.

Minimalist styling includes “raw metal” highlights, a teardrop-style gas tank and almost no chrome. Seat height is a very low 690 mm (27.2 in), and the footpegs are mid-mounted for a comfortable riding position.

It is powered by a 942 cc, 60-degree air-cooled V-twin with four valves per cylinder. The engine is fuel injected, has five speeds and uses belt final drive.

The Bolt is reminiscent of the Honda Shadow 750RS, as well as the once popular standard Harley Sportster. It is also competitively priced at $8,999, and is available in black or white.

Motorcycle Mojo will get on the Bolt as soon as Yamaha makes one available for testing, so stay tuned.
