{"id":57068,"date":"2021-03-10T08:56:50","date_gmt":"2021-03-10T13:56:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/motorcyclemojo.com\/?p=57068"},"modified":"2021-03-10T08:56:50","modified_gmt":"2021-03-10T13:56:50","slug":"the-revolution-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/motorcyclemojo.com\/2021\/03\/the-revolution-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"The Revolution Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Italy-based Bimota\u2019s 2019 announcement that Kawasaki Heavy Industries had acquired a 49.9 per cent share in the born-again boutique manufacturer and the news that the supercharged Tesi H2 would be the first model created under the new partnership really hit the headlines. Production began in October 2020 at the rate of 20 bikes per month, thus reviving the Tesi name exactly 30 years after it first reached the marketplace with the Ducati-engined Tesi 1D. As Bimota\u2019s strapline succinctly puts it: \u201cThe Revolution Continues!\u201d The company\u2019s goal is to bring the claimed benefits of enhanced handling \u2013 created by separating the suspension, braking and steering functions by means of the Tesi\u2019s trademark hub-centre design \u2013 to a new generation of customers via the fastest street legal motorcycle the world may ever know.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s according to Dr. Tesi, aka Pierluigi Marconi, who conceived the design almost 40 years ago in conjunction with Roberto Ugolini, a fellow student at Bologna University. Kawasaki executive Hiroshi Ito, the new project\u2019s mastermind, contacted Marconi in October 2018 to alert him to the possibility that Bimota might be revived and to sound out his availability to rejoin the company should that happen. If so, what kind of bike would Marconi like to build first?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Designed in the Mind<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-57076\" src=\"http:\/\/motorcyclemojo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_00037_OK-Bianca-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\">\u201cThe first thing Kawasaki asked me was \u2018What about making a motorcycle with our H2 engine?\u2019\u201d recalls Marconi. \u201cI said it would be a beautiful thing to use the most powerful engine in the market, but I\u2019d need everything \u2013 not only the engine \u2013 so what else could Kawasaki supply me with? They replied, \u2018You can use anything you like \u2013 we are completely open. Just tell us which kind of motorcycle you\u2019d like to make.\u2019 I told them I\u2019d like to develop a Tesi with the H2 engine \u2013 and they said, \u2018Great! Let\u2019s start.\u2019 So we did!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Work on the Tesi H2 officially began in May 2019 and the finished product was unveiled at the EICMA show six months later \u2013 an incredibly short time span for an all-new model, achieved only because Marconi began sketching out the proposed layout in his mind ahead of time. \u201cThe previous December, I began to think how [the Tesi H2] could be made,\u201d he says. \u201cSo when we began in May, everything was very clear. We got really great support from Kawasaki, which more than lived up to its promises and gave us everything we asked for.
